Track and Field

This year, Ashley told us about track at their school. They allowed Mason and Kaiah to participate just like any other kid. It was a GREAT experience! They learned a lot about perseverance, hard work, and pushing themselves to new heights (literally!)

Practice was at the school 2 days a week and meets were every weekend for 8 weeks. The kids started the season practicing in snow and ended it in sweltering heat.

They both did pretty well. Mason's longest jump was 11 feet 7 inches. And Kaiah's was 10 feet. Even though Kaiah was one year younger than the youngest kid (they were so nice to make an exemption) she did really well keeping up! She was right up there most of the time with some of the top racers for the grade ahead of her. Unfortunately, the day of the championship races, she started out her run with a blood sugar of 41. Even though I threw a juice over the fence, she wasn't able to recover enough and ended in pretty much last place... bummer! We'll have to stay on top of that next time.

The two little clowns that came to every meet to watch their brother and sister compete found several different ways to entertain themselves!

We all enjoyed the season. We enjoyed watching all the kids (even from other teams) learn new skills, push themselves, and have tons of fun doing it.
