"Dada" is sentimental and intentional. He almost feels it is a crime to be so close to all this beauty and not seize the day whenever possible. At least once or twice a week he wakes up early and picks a kid to take to Starbucks before heading on down the the beach. It's become the replacement for the early morning walks that he did with them in Oregon. We live too far away from town to walk to a coffee shop, so he rotates through all the kids and goes to the beach to catch the sunrise. The fun part is that they are different every time! And the kids just love the one on one attention :)
They play with beach debris (sometimes he takes two kids at a time),
and experiment with optical illusions while waiting for the sun to appear.
This is a picture of the sun first rising up behind Maui (we can see three islands (Lana'i, Maui and Moloka'i) from this side on a clear day)!
Sometimes he goes during the day as well.
He also frequently suggests that we all go to the beach at night. Especially when it's a full moon!
He's encouraged me to take the kids to do things one on one with the kids as well, so I've gone out a few times :)
Off to the next early morning adventure! I'm so glad he's intentional. We all benefit!
