Stirring Things Up

2 Peter 1:12 & 15 - So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have... And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.

One of the things I like most about our Home Bible Study is that there are at least 3 different versions used. It helps us to see things differently when they are read another way. This is one of those verses. The NASV version uses the picture of stirring up our memory to remember how we as Christians are called to live.

I think of this every time I stir creamer into my coffee. If I don't stir it up, it all sits at the bottom and tastes bitter at first then way too super sweet.

But when I stir it up, the whole thing is delicious (new favorite is Coconut Creme! Mmmm.) and not at all bitter.

He gives us these word pictures in His Word to remind us of how sweet he can make our lives to those watching on the outside. Without the Fruits (or creamer) of the Spirit, we can be seen (or drunk in) as bitter.

"These things" that he is reminding us all of are making every effort to add to our faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance, and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

Such a good reminder for me every time I stir up my morning coffee :)
