The last few months I've been attempting some new feats of sewing strength. Most of it is pretty basic, but with no training or classes since 6th grade, I've mostly just trying to figure it out on my own. So far it's gone ok... with a only a few minor mishaps. But hey, all a part of the learning process right?
A few months ago I bought some really nice jeans for a great price... but they were too short, so I found some cute material and added it to the hem. I really had a hard time at first, and ended up making a Swiss bonnet of sorts instead.
But then I figured it out and they ended up looking like this!
I can only handle one sewing project a year for Halloween. Last year it was Mason's parrot:
This year I made Kaiah a chef hat.
Sweet little Cambria is always wanting to help with the pins. When I am not actively needing one or having one put away, she pretends they are people and has many different scenarios. I love listening to her imagination while I sew. The pink "people" are her favorite.
I made a couple of bags out of some brown corduroy curtains that I purchased at a garage sale for $1. Score!
And I've discovered that it is really easy to make key chains and dog leashes (I made all of Kaiah's friends one for her dog birthday party).
But these were all pretty easy compared to the project I undertook the week before Christmas. The girls were asked to be in my cousin's wedding and thankfully she was not particular about what they wore. I was able to find several options for Cambria, but not Kaiah. So I decided to make hers. I won't lie. It took at least 3 or 4 days of many hours each to make this dress. And I had the hardest time with the top of the sleeves. In fact I still don't know how to hem it. I just puckered up the bottom with hand-stitches all the way around and sent her down the aisle. Someday I'll fix that... It was also a little bit too big, but it worked at least.
Then I just added a sash in the color of the wedding.
Cambria is outgrowing her little baby blanket, so I sewed this up the night before Christmas. I did that last year with Mason's and Kaiah's too. I am such a procrastinator! Except this year I can blame it on the wedding on the 23rd.
She loves it.
And I also finished (after like 4 years of trying) the Christmas stockings for everyone in our family. Yes I realize there are 6 of us, but the cat barfed on one of them under the Christmas tree, so at the time I took the picture, it was in the laundry.
And this weekend I finished a project I found on Pinterest. Actually, the stockings design and the dog leashes idea were from there too. But here is the bag I've been wanting to try.
I messed up on a few spots. I forgot to add a loop to hold my keys, and the bag's iPad pocket has a very crooked flap. And the structural integrity is way too floppy, but I love the colors and I think this bag will get used. I already have plans for the next one. And Kaiah wants a new diabetes bag, so I think I'll try that next.
