The Create-A-Creature Club

The kids came up with this fun idea all on their own. I love it when they get creative! The idea was to draw a previously unknown creature,  give it a personal name, a scientific name and draw what they eat and the egg out of which they hatched. They were pretty into them for about a week... they even pretended they were swimming with them in the ocean and at the pool. I keep waiting for the time when this sort of thing gets old or juvenile to them, as many of their friends are already there. Some of Mason's friends are really into girls already. I know it's coming soon, but for now... we bask!

So when I noticed that they were really into this club, I decided to make their creatures into an actual stuffed animal. I once saw a gal who did this for her kids, and then her friends kids, and then it turned into a crazy successful business. It was so fun! My friend/neighbor helped me figure out a few of the designs and she gave me some material from the leg of her husband's army fatigues that he wore in the Philippines to make something for Lochlan.

Here are the creatures they drew and how the real ones turned out comparatively:

Mason's (Full Moon -Speed Leaper)

Kaiah's (Scone)

and Cambria's (Zina)

Everytime Lochlan tried to draw something, it ended up being scribbled out in frustration. He's not much of an artist yet.... so I made him a snake which he named "Snakey" or "Lightning"

It took 4 sewing sessions over the course of 3 days. But all that work was worth it when we saw their reactions when we gave them to the kids on Valentines Day. Mason exclaimed, "It's our creatures! They look exactly the same!" and Kaiah said the next day, "This is the best stuffed animal I have ever had."

They sleep with them at night and play with them during the day. They have even been to the pool and on walks.... and some people throw their in the air and pretend they are boomerangs. But this project may have backfired on me. Now they are making plans for the next ones...
