A Messy Privilege

Lochlan was potty trained several weeks ago, but on occasion he still has accidents. We have him sleep in his underwear every night because he really is pretty good about holding it. But on occasion he will soak his bed, jammies, blankets, etc.

That's what happened last night at 2 am. He got up to tell me that he was wet and I got him in the bathroom and on the toilet in case he needed to go some more. I started the bath while he finished and then cleaned up his bed, put on new sheets and got him some new jammies. Then I bathed him. He played with his new boat (from Christmas) while I shampooed and conditioned his curly hair and we had a nice little conversation. When we were done he reached up for me and I wrapped him up in a warm towel.

L: "Mama? You wap me up wike a baby?"

Me: (Smiling and scooping him up like a baby held close to my chest) "Lochlan, I love you."

L: "Yeah." (smiling contentedly)

L: "Mama, I wanna snuggoow."

Me: "OK."

We paused in front of the mirror so he could smile at himself before going out to the couch and snuggling a little. Then I put on his PJs and got him back into his now warm and clean bed.

And I reminisced about how, if we had never adopted Lochlan, I wouldn't have had this mess to clean up and I would have been left sleeping soundly in my bed at 2am... but I also wouldn't have been able to experience this wonderful moment with my sweet, loving little boy.

He is such a blessing.

We're so happy we adopted him.

And though he can make some pretty impressive messes (of all kinds :), it really is such a privilege that we were chosen to raise him and we are enjoying him so much.
