Getting Involved - library time

One fun activity that we have done early on is the library preschool time. We got a tip from one of our neighbors that our city had the best program on the whole island! So, with a suggestion like that, we had to try it out. We were not disappointed. The librarian who does the performances, on any other day looks like a boring, quiet worker. But Thursday mornings, he is transformed and puts on quite the show!

He starts by singing and playing the guitar in soothing relaxing melodies, then he works up to louder jumping and active ones. He reads them a book. After that is usually a puppet show (with fun original puppets and make-shift props) and then he does some sort of shadow figure with light behind the screen set to dramatic music and dialogue. This one's my favorite because he gets so dramatic, it's hilarious. The kids are sitting there with their mouths open and glued to the floor to see what will happen next. So funny! Then he sings again and they break to do a craft.

Lochlan and Cambria have loved it! And Mason and Kaiah always tag along. They've become really good at finding books in the system and have developed a love of reading more than they had before the summer reading program here.
One funny and random note though, there are about 100 chickens and other birds right outside of the front door of the library, and there are several homeless people living next to the parking lot (right behind the sign that says, "no loitering" LOL) under a bunch of trees. They have also hired a security guard to make sure everyone gets to the building and back to the cars safely.
So, library time is always full of one adventure or another :).
