A Friend Who Understands...

We found Naomi (at our church) through a friend of ours. She was diagnosed with Type 1 last October and her mom was surprised to find that not only Kaiah, but also another 7 year old kid named Timmy from our church had it. Since then, Kaiah and Naomi have had several play dates together. They seem to really enjoy each other's company and her mom and I really love bouncing ideas off of each other and talking Type 1. It's so nice to have someone who really understands and can actually help troubleshoot.

So when Naomi was getting ready to get a pump, we decided to have her over for a sleepover. This was her first since her diagnosis and her mom felt OK about letting her be with us because we already had to get up in the night to check Kaiah's sugar.

They had a lot of fun together. On a walk to the park they took pictures together,

played,

Fed the geese,

and ran around while I carried the diabetes bags

and tried to keep track of Lochlan.

We set up tents in the living room for the girls (and their American Girls),

We learned about Naomi's CGM machine that beeps and shows arrows when her blood sugar is going up or down quickly... Kaiah doesn't have one of those.... and she checked out the glucometer that she would soon be getting with her new pump.

They compared stories and played games like 7 years olds do and acted like very normal little girls... They just had some odd things sticking in their tummy's. Kaiah enjoys all of her friends, but it was a nice surprise to find a friend that she enjoys spending time with and has Type 1.
