When we have just returned from a visit to Mimi and Baba's house, the ducks are immortalized on paper. He made this one for Mimi.
When our friends "lent" us their bird to try it out, Mason drew about that...

After reading the book The Trumpet of the Swan, Mason and Kaiah saved up their money to buy some swan Webkins and named them Louis and Serena after the birds in the book. He was a Trumpeter swan who could not speak (honk), so his father stole a trumpet for him, and he hung it around his neck along with a chalkboard, some chalk, a pouch for carrying money that he earned doing odd jobs to pay back the music store, and a medal for valor that he earned at a boys camp when he saved a kid from drowning...
When I hurt my leg, Mason made me a sweet sign that he knew I'd enjoy looking at...

Recently, as we were reading about Corrie ten Boom, Mason worked quietly on some legos. Even after we were done, he kept going for quite a while. When he was done, he explained that he had made a vehicle that the Nazis used for transporting prisoners. Notice, he found the meanest prison guards he could and the cage for transporting the prisoners... Interesting what they focus on.
And this week when he was at a slumber party, my friend Kara had gotten them owl pellets to dissect, knowing that 2 of the kids were really into birds and all of them thought digging through post-digested and vomited up owl prey rejects would be totally awesome! The next day, Mason drew an owl card for his friend Isaiah. (They have an odd game where they add a "sch" to the front of their names when telling stories about each other while camping...)
I save most of what he draws, but some of the other stuff is better preserved here on the blog. We are loving watching his creativity and try really hard not to laugh at the cute things he comes up with so he'll keep on creating and processing his thoughts on paper and with other "art." forms :)
