No... I'm Supposed To Teach YOU That!

Normally you would think that as parents we would be striving to show our kids how to be or act or learn. A couple of weeks ago, it was just the opposite.

I was sitting in my chair watching Masterpiece Theater on my computer during our kids quiet/nap time. Normally I let the older kids play a game, play outside or play the Wii if we are all done with school work. Mason kept interrupting me:

"Mom, can I use a paper plate?"
"Do you know where some string is?"
"Where is that hole puncher?"

I didn't ask them any questions and I wasn't annoyed, just happy they had found something constructive to do. The I went back to my show.

About 45 minutes later they both appeared in front of me with smiles on their faces announcing they had made a craft. I was actually really impressed! The had cut out a rainbow on the paper plate and hole punched it hanging string attached to little rain drops that had stuff written on it. Here is what they made:

Mason informed me that his Bible told him about the craft idea and after having a Bible study together they made it just like the book said. I was really happy that they had done what they did, and that are discovering for themselves that God is fun and worth pursuing, but I honestly felt like a loser.

I had not read my Bible yet that day.... or maybe even for a couple of days. I had a nice chunk of time to relax while Lochlan was sleeping and the house was quiet, and I chose Masterpiece Theater over time with my Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Piece.

So. For myself, I decided, (and in part inspired by my friend Jaime as well) to not even crack open the computer to check an e-mail until after I had spent some quality time in the Word. It's too important not to start my day with Him. It has been so good too. I feel more energized and refreshed. I feel like I can make decisions with wisdom.

These kids continue to bless me more than they know. I'm praying that they and I will keep yearning for this Truth that transforms and gives life abundantly.

Here's a video of them doing another Bible study right before bed...

Ask Mason if he'd be willing to lead in Sunday school. I'd want him to lead a lesson to my kiddos.

...Also, tell him "Thanks" for not cutting up any of your shoe laces when he couldn't find the string.

That's awesome, Becks! Very encouraging that they would just go and study God's word like that on their own. They are also very crafty!!

What a neat craft. We'll have to try that one.
